A bittersweet needlework finish...

This past Monday marked three years since James passed away.  Very hard to believe it's been so long; time seemed slow at some points, but the rest seemed to fly.

I started working on this piece almost four years ago.  James had selected the fabric and changed the colors from the reds in the pattern to this awesome electric blue, which definitely seems more fitting for a classic Corvette in my opinion.  I started working on it and got about 1/4 finished before he got really sick again and then passed away.  For a while afterwards, I couldn't stand to look at it so I hid it away.  I re-discovered it early last year and decided that I wanted to finish it because it was so neat and having it hanging in my home would be a testament to James' styles.

I finished it a couple weeks ago and couldn't be more thrilled by how well it turned out:

James' Corvette

Matthew, my new fiance, was actually very instrumental in helping me get the framing perfect.  I'd gone out one night to Hobby Lobby to pick out materials and found the mats right away.  The colors were just too perfect!  When it came to the frame, I knew I wanted silver to bring out the chrome of the car, but there weren't any pre-made frames in silver and I didn't want to spend so much on a custom-made one.  Really, the custom frame was only $40 since Hobby Lobby's framing is always half off, but to my mind habit of always spending as little as possible to frame because money was needed for more important things, it just didn't strike me as practical.  So, I picked up one of their black metal frame kits and headed home.

When I got home, though, I was still a little unhappy that I hadn't chosen the silver frame.  Matthew asked me what was wrong and I told him, and he just put his hands on my shoulders and explained that we had more than enough money with our combined incomes for me to splurge a little on a frame.  Besides, he pointed out, this piece clearly meant a lot to me, so I should have it framed the way I WANTED it framed.  Good point (I just LOVE that man!).  So, I took the black frame back and ordered the silver one that I initially wanted.  I couldn't be happier with how well the whole piece came together!
